It was a handful of Nepalese students studying at the university of Sydney and New South Wales who took the initiative in 1976 to establish an Association with the assistance of some Australians. Thus the first Nepali Association was born in Sydney Australia with the objectives of assisting the newly arrived Nepalese (whether they are students on scholarships or short term visitors) and to act as an unofficial embassy in providing information about Nepal to Australians. Since the establishment of this Nepalese & Australian Association, there has been an increase in Nepali population in Sydney.
